University of the Sciences (USciences) has an immediate need for a qualified candidate for the position of Chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical & Healthcare Business (PHB). The department chair will report to the dean of the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and will serve as the academic and administrative leader responsible for both undergraduate and graduate programs within the Department. The successful candidate will be eligible for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor in the department. This is a full-time, 12 month position. Supports the missions of the University, College, Department, and respective degree programs.
Exercises general administrative authority and responsibility for the department.
Acts as the leader to develop a vision and strategic plan for the Department that aligns with the College and University plans.
Assumes primary responsibility for establishing plans, policies, and goals of the Department and for the courses, programs, and curricula offered by the Department. Enforce established educational and administrative policies, direct change in or development of new policies.
Responsible for leading the development of new, innovative programs to be offered by the Department.
Leads the Department in increasing student, faculty and staff diversity.
Acts as a collaborator and facilitator both within and outside of the Department.
Communicates the interests, needs, contributions and views of departmental faculty to the dean of the college and, where appropriate, to other members of the University. Communicates the interests, needs, contributions and views of the dean and, where appropriate, other members of the University, to the departmental faculty, staff, and students.
Develops agenda for and conducts departmental meetings.
In coordination with department faculty and the dean, develops and implements plans relating to faculty and staff recruitment and orientation.
Performs annual evaluation of faculty and staff including establishing goals and provides advice and guidance to departmental faculty and staff in all areas of their development.
Assumes overall responsibility for curriculum content and assessment of performance of graduate and undergraduate students.
Ensures that the BS and MBA Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Business meet accreditation standards as set forth by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP), Middle States and PA Department of Education requirements are met and maintained.
Plans and schedules courses to be taught by the department and assigns advisors in accordance with institutional workload policies.
Selects, supervises, and evaluates program directors for those programs within the department that require administration beyond that provided by the chair.
Coordinates departmental service responsibilities.
Assists faculty and staff to assume appropriate levels and types of service responsibilities.
Administers departmental resources.
Consults annually with departmental faculty members on resource needs when developing budget requests.
Effectively and efficiently manages annual departmental budget including recommended salaries and wages, supplies and expenses, facilities additions, changes and/or renovations, and proposed appropriations for capital equipment to the dean of the college.
Establishes expenditure priorities.
Ensures that spending does not exceed allocated funds.
Solicits feedback from departmental faculty on the effectiveness of their departmental leadership, department performance, and develop a strategic plan.
With the faculty, develops a departmental assessment plan and submits an annual assessment report to the dean of the college and the director of assessment.
Leads the development and implementation of a strategic plan and assessment plan for the department.
Conducts comprehensive program review and self-study at least once every seven years.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
Terminal doctorate degree in relevant field(s) required.
Masters of Business Administration (MBA) preferred.
Experience in Pharmaceutical and Healthcare sector required.
Experience in higher education required.
Experience with online education preferred.
Familiarity with higher education accreditation and student services issues.
Excellent supervisory, organizational, and training skills.
Excellent verbal/written communication and presentation skills.
Ability to work as an integral part of an administrative team.
Ability to work with individuals from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds.
Skills in development, implementation, and execution of programs.
Excellent administrative skills.
