Medica, a non-profit health services company headquartered in Minneapolis, that serves communities in Minnesota, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, and Wisconsin is seeking applications for the position of Vice President of Pharmacy.

The Vice President of Pharmacy is responsible for overseeing the pharmacy function’s strategic direction and implementation for the organization. The executive provides leadership and direction in the development and delivery of all Medica pharmacy programs and services including network and product management, pharmacy benefits manager (PBM) relationship management to include contract negotiations, and ensures all programs, products, and processes fully align with corporate objectives to provide differentiated offerings to exceed market and customer requirements. As the healthcare industry continues its evolution to be more consumer-oriented, with value-driven models, with a focus on prevention and chronic care management, pharmacy benefits are a key offering to Medica plan members. The position is a very visible role inside and outside of Medica. This executive will oversee PBM relationships, and will ensure contracted pharmacy providers deliver the best quality, experience, and affordability. As such, s/he will need to embody a credible, confident, highly professional and customer-focused demeanor.
The VP of Pharmacy provides the development and implementation of short- and long-term strategic plans required for ongoing growth and success. S/he will provide the leadership necessary to ensure the Pharmacy function’s strategic plans are translated into clear tactical goals and objectives to ensure performance objectives are met or exceeded while modeling and promoting the culture of the organization.
Oversees the design and development of program offerings to serve pharmacy needs of members.
Establishes pharmacy program goals and measures utilization and the achievement of outcomes and efficiency targets.
Leads development and implementation of pharmacy policies and procedures with emphasis on quality and accessibility of care, financial goal attainment, and operational efficiency.
Participates in highly visible activities (i.e. customer negotiations or influencing other executives on matters of significance to the organization) and policy making.
Recruits, selects and retains highly qualified professionals. Provides the leadership necessary to maintain a motivated, productive, and competent team through open communication and delegation of responsibilities and authority. Guides and direct subordinates in their personal and professional development.
Evaluates emerging trends in pharmaceutical use, understanding the impact of emerging pipeline drugs and executing strategic initiatives.
Ensures compliance with pharmacy regulatory standards.
Doctorate of Pharmacy degree required; advanced degree (MA, MBA, or MHA) preferred.
Minimum 10 years of experience required; a minimum of 5 years of healthcare experience preferred; a minimum of 3-5 years of functional expertise with goal focus on markets preferred.
Expertise providing results based leadership and strategic direction to develop, recommend and implement programs, policies and procedures, and standards for a pharmacy and prescription drug function for an organization.
