The G.O. Discovery Laboratory, located in the UCLA Broad Stem Cell Research Center and affiliated with the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Molecular Biology Institute, is looking to recruit a staff research associate. The appointment will be through the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
A major responsibility for this candidate will be execution of experiments in the laboratory including but not limited to characterization and maintenance of patient tumors, developing in vivo PDXs using these tissues, and testing response to targeted therapies. These functions entail: (A) performing experiments in the laboratory as it pertains to ongoing projects, (B) facilitating consenting of patients for collection to tissue and transfer of clinical material from UCLA Hospitals to the laboratory, (C) viably processing human tissues and cryopreserving samples for ongoing research projects, (D) implantation of tumor tissue in vivo and performing drug testing experiments, and (E) maintaining accurate records including consent documentation and de-identified clinical data gathered from medical records. The person in this position interfaces as appropriate with laboratory personal, hospital personnel, patients, and other University departments as needed. As such, discretion and professionalism are of the utmost importance.
Knowledge of laboratory equipment and safety Knowledge of cell biology and previous experience working with human cells, preferably primary patient samples Knowledge in molecular biology and laboratory experiments Knowledge of specimens and tissue collection Knowledge of consent form Excellent skill in verbal and written communication.Proper utilization of English in the written word and conversation.
