This position facilitates the integration of evidence-based practice (EBP) and nursing research into clinical practice across the MemorialCare enterprise. Additionally, this position serves to train and educate frontline nursing staff on EBP guidelines and research methodologies. This position coordinates with Advanced Practice Nurses to identify appropriate nursing research studies, supports the development and submission of research applications to the MemorialCare Office of Research Administration (ORA), and is responsible for overseeing the conduct, evaluation, and outcome of any approved study. This position will ensure frequent communication regarding nursing research and EBP activities system-wide. Participates in the development of a strategic plan for Nursing Research, Evidenced Based Practice and the APN-Nurse Navigator programs at specific campuses. Participates in research seminars, committees and other projects as directed.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job
The coordinator of Nursing Research and Evidence-Based Practice is accountable for assisting in the development and facilitation of independent nursing research and evidenced based practice, as well as the facilitation of advanced practice programs that include campus-based nurse researchers.
The coordinator is also accountable for ensuring communication throughout the MemorialCare system with the goal of maintaining an informed leadership team as it relates to nursing research and EBP.
Coordinates and helps champion research focused on outcomes for patients/family that are measurable, using statistics.
Research will be conducted under the oversight of the MHS Nurse Research Council, CNO VAT, and MemorialCare’s Office of Research Administration. Research may also include multi-site trials.
The Coordinator ensures the application to clinical practice of the best available evidence gained from the scientific method to nurse decision making.
Three (3) years experience in nursing education, research, or practicing as an APN.
Evidence of competency in clinical quality planning, measurement
Evidence of publishing in scientific journals and/or conducting research as the primary investigator.
Knowledgeable of research methodology, protocol design, and statistical analysis
Knowledgeable of Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Officer for Human Research Protections (OHRP), and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines.
Experience in using a range of research-related resources including computer applications.
Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Expert analytic and problem-solving skills
Positive presentation characteristics and speaking skills, able to articulate complex concepts to support learner understanding
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
RN license and Master’s in Nursing required.
Advanced Practice Nurse Certification in California preferred.
Doctorate in Nursing or Education preferred.
