About Centre for Brain Research, Indian Institute of Science
The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) is one of India's oldest centers for research and higher education in Science and Engineering. Established in 1909 through the benevolent endowment of Shri.J.N.Tata and 400 acres of land from the King of Mysore, IISc completed a century of existence in May 2009. IISc currently has total faculty strength of about 450 with student strength of about 4000. Additionally, large number of young researchers work as project staff or postdoctoral fellows. The expertise in physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics and engineering and close proximity to clinicl centers provide an ideal environment for interdisciplinary reserach, such as in neuroscience.
