Research Scientist – Bioinformatics -Translational Research Institute – Orlando

Located on a lush tropical campus, our flagship hospital, 1,107-bed Florida Hospital Orlando, serves as the major tertiary facility for much of the Southeast, the Caribbean and South America. Florida Hospital Orlando houses one of the largest Emergency Departments and largest cardiac catheterization labs in the country. The Research Scientist, Bioinformatics, under the direction of the Scientific Director, Director, will be responsible for analyzing complex data sets from a variety of platforms including: genome-wide transcriptomic (e.g. RNA-seq, microarray) data sets, epigenomics, proteomics and metabolomics. Qualified candidates will be proficient in applying standard analysis tools and algorithms for next generation sequencing analyses, possess strong analytical skills, a working knowledge of biostatistics, and an ability to work in a collaborative, multi-stakeholder environment. Ability to represent the Bioinformatics needs of the TRI-MD and investigators in multi-institutional partnerships and projects. The Research Scientist, Bioinformatics will ensure that all research performed under their direction is in compliance with all Florida Hospital, TRI, local, state, and federal laws, policies and procedures.

The Translational Research Institute for Metabolism and Diabetes (TRI-MD) Senior Research Scientist – Metabolic Disease provides leadership through participating in federal and non-federally sponsored clinical and translational research at TRI-MD. Develops novel research ideas and fosters collaboration with TRI-MD faculty members and external partners and seeks external funding to support these ideas. The Senior Scientist provides mentorship and guidance to TRI-MD Research Scientists as appropriate, and ensures all research performed under his/her direction is in compliance with all Florida Hospital and TRI policies and procedures and local, state, and federal laws. The Senior Research Scientist is expected to participate in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
PhD in Biomedical Sciences with two – three years of experience in Biomedical Sciences OR
Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences with ten years of experience in Biomedical Sciences
Clinical and/or translational research experience in industry, academic or contract research organization
Established competency in research as evidenced by published (peer reviewed) research
Experience with all aspects of clinical research including clinical protocol development, study execution and study close out
Minimum of two years working in a team environment with experience leading clinical research projects
Knowledge of regulatory requirements that pertain to clinical/medical research
Knowledge of the development and operation of clinical research protocols
Experience in investigator or sponsor-initiated research in a clinical research setting
NIH and/or Pharmaceutical research in the areas of metabolic disease or biomarker development (Preferred)
Two years of relevant experience working with clinical study budgets and other aspects of clinical operations (Preferred)

Provides leadership/mentorship for TRI-MD Research Scientists as appropriate.
Develops, fosters and supports relationships with the external scientific community including industry partners and academic collaborators.
Serves as a primary point of contact in communications with potential and existing external partners and collaborators
Actively participates in national conferences to present scientific data, deliver lectures and network with potential new partners or collaborators
Serves as Co-Investigator on clinical studies including those supported by external partnerships as well as community-based studies and investigator-initiated projects.
Serves as primary point of contact with TRI-MD core teams on clinical studies
Provides scientific expertise and guidance on clinical protocol development, study documents and final study reports
Develops novel research ideas that support the mission of TRI-MD. Collaborates with faculty members to seek external funding to support and develop those ideas. Prepares research grant applications.
Publishes peer reviewed manuscripts and review articles.
Constructs and implements Translation Research proposals, protocols and procedures.
Coordinates tissue and bio-specimen analysis across our collaborating partners including, but not limited to, Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute.
Develops novel analytics to study human muscle development, function and metabolism.
Supervises data collection by TRI Research Core staff including but not limited to Clinical Operations, Energy Metabolism, BioRepository and Clinical Research Unit. Analyzes research data in collaboration with Biostatisticians and TRI faculty; prepares final study reports, when applicable
Performs other duties as assigned
