The Southern Arizona VA Health Care System (SAVAHCS) is the principal teaching affiliate of the University of Arizona Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy. Medical students, residents, and fellows train at our facility. The selected candidate must also be eligible for an appointment with the University of Arizona. The SAVAHCS is a tertiary care facility providing a full range of clinical services including cardiac surgery and neurosurgery. The SAVAHCS is a flagship quality provider within the VA and was a 2012 winner of the prestigious Robert W. Carey Performance Excellence Award.
The SAVAHCS professional staff is seeking 2 full-time psychiatrists to provide quality service in our progressive, innovative, and highly interdisciplinary health care system for the Veteran outpatient population at our Tucson main VA campus. One position is for telepsychiatry and may be filled as a telework position. Possession of a DEA-X certificate or plan to secure one is required. As an outpatient psychiatrist you will provide outpatient care for a diverse patient population working as part of a highly skilled interdisciplinary team. In addition to patient care, responsibilities also include supervision and education of residents and medical students from the University of Arizona. Successful applicants will have a strong commitment to patient care and teaching. This position requires 3-4 weeks of call covering the inpatient psychiatry unit per year. During the week of call, this psychiatrist will provide telephone back up to the University of Arizona psychiatry residents and will work on the inpatient psychiatry unit on weekends supervising residents and treating patients. If the telepsychiatry position is filled as a telework position, there will be no call or teaching requirements. Academic experience and research interest is a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to physically and mentally perform the duties in an inpatient/outpatient setting under normal and emergent conditions. Heavy lifting 45 lbs and over with assistive devices, heavy carrying of 45 lbs and over with assistive devices; reaching above shoulder; use of fingers, both hands required, walking or standing up to 4 hours per day; repeated bending up to 1-2 hours per day; ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination; near vision correctable; hearing aid permitted.
