The Assistant Director of the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District will oversee the City’s Communicable Disease Division and will understand the value and benefit of the essential public health services including monitoring the health of the community and conducting disease investigation and diagnosis. The successful candidate will be expected to play a significant role in assisting the Director to proactively advocate the movement of priorities and policies in support of the Division’s and Department’s overall goals and objectives.
Assists in managing the development and implementation of department goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for each assigned service area.
Monitors and evaluates the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedure; identifies opportunities for improvement, and directs the implementation of changes.
Oversees the development of grant proposals and programs.
Coordinates activities with community groups and health providers under non-emergency and emergency conditions.
Assesses and monitors workload, administrative/support systems, and internal reporting relationships.
Serves as an official departmental representative to other City departments, the City Manager’s Office, elected officials and outside agencies.
Responds to sensitive inquiries and/or complaints.
Provides staff support and technical assistance to a variety of boards, committees, and commissions.

This position requires the successful candidate have a Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Public Health, Public Health Administration, Epidemiology, Public Administration, Business Administration or similar field, with emphasis in health care systems. The selected candidate will have over five (5) years of increasingly responsible professional experience in public health administration, including at least three (3) years of administrative or supervisory responsibility at the senior managerial or executive leadership level.
