The MetroHealth System invites nominations and expressions of interest for the position of Chair, Department of Medicine. As one of the largest, most comprehensive healthcare providers in Northeast Ohio, MetroHealth has been serving the medical needs of the Greater Cleveland community since 1837. Led by President and Chief Executive Officer, Akram Boutros, MD, FACHE, the leadership team is invested in an era of transformation and growth and is committed to the core mission of “leading the way to a healthier you and a healthier community through service, teaching, discovery and teamwork” and envisions MetroHealth being “the most admired public health system in the nation, renowned for its innovation, outcomes, service and financial strength.”
The new Chair will be an outstanding leader and skilled physician, physician-educator or physician-investigator, widely recognized in the field with a strong track record of scholarship and clinical excellence. They will be a respected leader who is operationally savvy, highly knowledgeable of cutting edge medicine, and a visionary leader in the new age of medical science. The next Chair inherits the tailwind of a recently approved plan for a $950 million campus transformation which includes construction of a new in-patient tower to complement a just-completed Critical Care Pavilion at the main campus and several new ambulatory centers and community hospitals throughout the region.
The successful candidate will be viewed by all stakeholders as a strong advocate for balancing the academic, educational, and clinical missions within the Department – that is composed of eleven divisions, two clinical centers and four research centers – and be a champion for collaboration with colleagues outside of the Department. They will promote a culture of institutional stewardship and transparency, including commitment to improved clinical operations, efficient and effective use of space, and a willingness to re-align resources with evolving institutional strategies. In this context, the Chair reports to the Executive Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer; Senior Associate Dean for the MetroHealth System, Case Western Research School of Medicine, and the Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.
This is an unparalleled opportunity for an innovative executive with a desire to lead a prestigious clinical, education, and research enterprise, and serve as an integral leader of MetroHealth during this moment of transformative change across the healthcare industry. The new leader will be part of a mission-driven system that educates health professionals and scientists and provides leading-edge patient care, community service and research whose impact is global.
