JOB SUMMARY: Assist in planning, organizing, developing and directing the clinic in accordance with government regulations and to assure that the highest degree of quality patient care can be maintained at all times.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: Include the following; other duties may be assigned.
Assist in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing the clinics nursing services, its programs and activities.
Develop and maintains a good working rapport with inter-department personnel, as well as other departments within the facility to assure that the department services and activities can be properly maintained to meet the needs of the patients.
Develop and maintains nursing objectives and standards.
Interpret department policies and procedures to personnel, patients, visitors, family members, etc., as necessary, assuring that all follow the established policies at all times. At least once a year, review the policies, recommending any changes.
Create and maintains an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the department.
Manage Employee Health program and requirements per state regulations.
Manage immunization program for Residents and Staff.
Participate as needed in Health Team meetings and Resident transition meetings.
Meet with department personnel, on a regularly scheduled basis, to assist in identifying and correcting problem areas, and/or the improvement of services. Evaluates assigned personnel and make recommendations to the supervisor.
Order prescribed medications, supplies, and equipment as established by our policies and procedures.
Admit, transfers and discharges patients, assists in arranging transportation, packing, as necessary; assures that patient is escorted to the discharge/transfer area.
Administer professional services such as: catherization, tube feedings, suction, applying and changing dressings/bandages, packs, colostomy and drainage bags, taking blood, sputum, urine specimens, care of the dead/dying, etc., as established by our policies and procedures; check Resident charts for specific treatment, medication orders, schedules.
Review physician’s orders, transfer/preadmission information, and new diet orders/changes for completeness and forward information to appropriate department. Reports all discrepancies of physician’s orders, diet, charting to the supervisor.
Carries out restorative and rehabilitative programs, to include self-help/care.
May perform minor housekeeping duties around the clinic.
Notify the attending physician and supervisor when a patient is discharged without approval. Assures that appropriate documentation is made in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Inspects the nursing service/clinic areas and practices for compliance with current applicable regulations at least monthly.
Work with the facility’s consultants - pharmacy, medical records, social services, as necessary and implement recommended changes as required.
Assist in standardizing the methods in which work will be accomplished and assist with standardizing data in Electronic Health Record to reflect standardization of all three levels of care.
Assume the responsibility and accountability of managing the clinic department and delegate authority, responsibility and accountability to other responsible department personnel.
Assure that the department is maintained in a clean and safe manner for patient comfort and convenience by assuring that necessary equipment and supplies are maintained to perform such duties/services.
Assist physician in Medical Clinic as needed.
Assist in Hillcrest (Assisted Living) as needed.
Assist residents in independent living units when home health care is necessary.
Answer telephone, makes appointments, runs errands, takes and delivers messages, etc., as directed.
Sort, distributes, and routes incoming mail to appropriate residents, departments, and/or personnel.
File incident/accident reports in accordance with established policies.
Transcribe Medical Director dictations for patient charts unless electronically transmitted.
Proofs and corrects all incoming transcriptions.
Maintain files and other records as directed including Electronic Health Record.
Prepare and mails letters, and/or other correspondence to residents, guardians, etc., as necessary.
Arrange for meetings, conferences, etc., as directed.
Report complaints and grievances to the supervisor as necessary.
Release information in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Promotes Carmel Valley Manor Wellness Philosophy to Residents and Staff.
Other related duties and responsibilities that may become necessary to meet the needs of the facility.
Attends and participates in in-service educational classes, on the job training programs, workshops, seminars, etc., as directed.
Arrange for repair or replacement of equipment due to malfunctions or breakdowns when occur.
Ensures administrative supplies have been replenished in work areas as necessary. Report equipment/supply needs to your supervisor.
Assure that work/assignment areas are clean and office equipment is in the proper mode before leaving such areas on breaks, end of workday, etc.
Use equipment and materials in a safe and acceptable manner, follows established safety procedures, uses appropriate safeguards, and observes common sense rules of safety in all on-the-job activities including the Injury and Illness Prevention Program.
Assists in preparing payroll.
Conduct self in a manner, which reflects credit on Carmel Valley Manor and encourages others to do the same.
Resident’s Rights Responsibilities: Ensure that patient’s rights to fair and equitable treatment, self determination, individuality, privacy, property and civil rights, including the right to wage a complaint, are well established and maintained at all times.
Maintain Confidentiality of all pertinent patient care information to assure patient rights are protected.
Reviews complaints and grievances and make necessary oral/written reports to the President & CEO.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Must possess a Registered Nurse (RN) license and a minimum of one (1) year of experience in a supervisory capacity in a clinic, hospital, skilled nursing care facility, or other related medical facility. Must have a valid and current CPR Certificate.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must possess a valid and current California registered nurse license.
Must be able to read, write, speak in an understandable manner, and understand the English language and carry out oral and written instructions.
Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
Must possess the ability to deal tactfully and work harmoniously with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
Must be a minimum of 23 years of age and of good moral character.
Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations and guidelines pertaining to hospital and nursing home operation.
Possess leadership ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise professional and non-professional personnel.
Must possess the ability to maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment and maintain the appearance of nursing areas, regular inspection of nursing units for sanitation, safety and proper performance of assigned duties.
Possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing nursing practices.
